About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our growing construction company in SE Portland. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity, ideal for someone who is looking to prove their value and grow into a long-term role. We're looking for the right person-not looking to rush into a permanent hire until the fit is right.
This role will partner closely with an existing payroll team member and support day-to-day accounting functions, month-end close, and construction-related billing.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Handle billing through general contractor platforms
- Perform account reconciliations
- Track and process union benefits, primarily maintained in spreadsheets
- Assist with and complete month-end close
- Understand and apply accrual vs. cash accounting concepts
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Collaborate with internal team members to support accounting operations
Software & Tools
- ProContractor (Viewpoint product)
Training resources will be provided
Qualifications
- Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong understanding of AP, AR, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Working knowledge of accrual vs. cash accounting
- Comfortable working in spreadsheets (Excel)
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
Preferred Qualifications
- Construction industry experience (highly preferred but not required)
- Experience with union benefits or job-cost accounting
- Familiarity with general contractor billing platforms
